Historical Overview:

This program was initiated by the Faculty of Arts, Information Science department. The main idea was proposed and outlined  by Prof. Randa Ibrahim with great support from Prof. Eman El-Nachar. The program had been designed under the supervision of Prof. Sohair Abd El-Salam Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Prof. Mamdouh Mahdy dean of the Faculty of Medicine Helwan University and Prof. Gihan Mostafa dean of the Faculty of Nursing Helwan University.

The interdisciplinary courses are designed in a collaborative effort by Prof. Randa Ibrahim, Prof. Mamdouh Mahdy, and  Prof. Gihan Mostafa, in addition to the efforts of Prof. Amany El-Sayed Head of the Department of  Information Science- Faculty of Arts , Dr. Zeinab Salah (Faculty of Arts – Department of  Information Science), and Dr. Samar Mahmoud (Faculty of Medicine).

Program Overview:

This Program is the 1st in Egypt and in the Middle East region with its interdisciplinary approach, initiated by an invitation from the staff members in the Department of  Information Science – Faculty of Arts – Helwan University to the Faculties of: Medicine and Nursing in order to participate in the program design & establishment. 

The Healthcare Informatics & Clinical Data (HICD) Program strives to improve the healthcare delivery system by educating current and future healthcare professionals in an inter-professional environment, engaging in scholarly activities, and providing benefits to the university, the region, and the professional community.

The HICD Program serves the citizens in meeting Healthcare and Clinical Informatics needs, preparing students for careers in the Healthcare Informatics positions in Healthcare Services Organizations. The program seeks to allow the students to identify problems and craft/find solutions using biomedical data.

The HICD Program develops working Healthcare care professionals by providing the needed knowledge and skills for advancement in the Healthcare care industry. 

The HICD program is designed to train students in the rapidly growing and dynamic field of Healthcare and Clinical Informatics. It provides them with broad exposure and greater understanding of using, managing, analyzing, protecting and improving the quality of healthcare information projects. Students are equipped with the knowledge and know-how that aids in the delivery of quality patient care within the Nation’s healthcare delivery system and ensure its efficiency.

Program Goals

  • Understand the interdisciplinary approaches of using computer applications in Healthcare sector
  • Transfer, localize and use of technical knowledge
  • Building highly specialized national cadres in the growing field of Healthcare Informatics & Clinical Data.
  • Use scientific methods and tools in Healthcare Informatics & Clinical Data field in addition to mastering scientific information and Healthcare data searching, collecting, organizing, managing, analyzing, and broadcasting by using healthcare and medical information technology’s modern applications.
  • Provide the student with up to date knowledge related to healthcare and Clinical Informatics
  • Developing skills and experiences of students in healthcare and medical applications.

Who can apply:

Graduates with BA degrees in:

Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Commerce and Business Administration, Veterinary Medicine, Colleges of Applied Medical Sciences , Physical Therapy College, Graduates of the Faculty of Engineering, Medical Engineering, Colleges of Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts from the departments of libraries and information and information and documentation studies, and graduates of departments and colleges of social sciences.

Students Admission Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in one of the following disciplines: Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, Pharmacy, Commerce and Business Administration, Veterinary Medicine, Colleges of Applied Medical Sciences , Physical Therapy College, Graduates of the Faculty of Engineering, Medical Engineering, Colleges of Health Sciences, Faculty of Arts from the departments of libraries and information and information and documentation studies, and graduates of departments and colleges of social sciences.

·         The student may be enrolled in a master’s degree if he holds a postgraduate diploma in medical,           pharmaceutical, dental, computers information, libraries and information from one of the previously mentioned colleges or the equivalent of a good general grade at least

  • A TOEFL score 550 (PBT) or IELTS (6). English-speaking students and students who have studied at the undergraduate level in English are exempted from this requirement. Students with TOEFL 500 (PBT) may be accepted until the required grade 550 (PBT) is completed in the first academic year.
  • The student has not been enrolled in any other study program inside or outside the same faculty.
  • The student has not been dismissed or his/her admission has not been canceled from the program that the applicant wishes to apply for due to his/her failure or any other reasons.
  • Successfully pass the supplementary courses that may be imposed by the College Council upon the suggestion of administer of the program, in a period not exceeding two semesters and do not count those courses within the required period to obtain the grade.

Tuition Fees:

For Egyptians:

Diploma (1-year): 34.000 EGP (17.000 EGP for each semesters).

Master’s (2-years): 40.000 EGP (10.000 EGP for each semesters).

  For Non-Egyptians:

Diploma (1-year): Total {6000 US $}; registration fees (US $ 1500) + (US $ 4500) for one academic year.                                                                           

Master’s (2-years): Total {10.500 US $}; registration fees for the first year only (US $ 1500) + (US $ 4500) for each academic year.
